Hyundai Motor Company has announced a A$300,000 contribution to the Australian Red Cross disaster relief and recovery fund.
The donation forms part of a Korean national contribution to the Republic of Korea National Red Cross (KNRC) of approximately AUD $1.9 million for bushfire relief. Funds were transferred from the Korean Red Cross to the Australian Red Cross (ARC) last week.
The KNRC secretary general Hee-Su Yoon expressed his condolences to the victims of the catastrophic Australian bushfires in a letter to the ARC chief executive officer Judy Slatyer.
“As a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, it is our pleasure that the KNRC could make a contribution to the ARC’s national relief and recovery operations with a fund collected in South Korea from the public and private sector, (including) Hyundai Motor Company.
“I hope that those affected people (can) return to their ordinary life as soon as possible with strengthened resilience,” says Yoon.
“The whole Korean nation was moved by the bushfire tragedy unfolding in Australia over the summer. On behalf of Hyundai Motor Company in Korea, I would like to wish the speediest of recoveries to all peoples in bushfire-affected regions, and express our thanks also to the Australian Red Cross for their ongoing relief efforts,” says Hyundai Motor Company Australia chief executive officer Jun Heo.
“Finally, I would like to acknowledge the heroism of the fire fighters across Australia who put their own lives at risk to save others. We have a volunteer fire fighter working for HMCA and he has shown us the difficulty and danger he and his teams experienced. Thank you fire fighters for doing such brave work for the Australian people,” he says.
The contribution from Hyundai Motor Company in Seoul complements the deployment by HMCA of 30 Hyundai Tucson loan vehicles last month into fire-affected regions.
